About Tilted Hat Motorsports

Tilted Hat Motorsports is a custom automotive shop located on the banks of the Connecticut River in Vermont that specializes in automotive restoration, hot rod building and restomods for collectors across the country who expect precision and performance.

Founder and lead technician Ben Musty has nearly 30 years of experience in auto restoration and has customized and restored cars for some of the nation’s foremost collectors. His work has been displayed at many of the nation’s most prestigious car shows, including Pebble Beach, Cavallino and Amelia Island.

The company was named in honor of Ben’s paternal grandfather, Bob Musty, a WWII Navy vet who always wore his hat – a Stetson in the summer and an insulated cap in the winter – a little tilted to one side.

Ben’s role model as a metalworker and craftsman, “Grandpa Bob” could build or fix anything. Ben spent countless hours with him in the small basement of the home he built with his own two hands. It was during these visits that Ben would watch him carefully turn raw lumber or pieces of metal into useful tools or beautiful pieces of furniture. Eventually, Ben would learn to help him and together they spent many afternoons and weekends in that little basement.

Although Ben was only 10 when Grandpa Bob died, the lessons he learned in that basement about tending to his tools, keeping a tidy workspace, fine tuning each detail, and coming back again and again until the product is perfect, along with the image of his hero as a soft-spoken, hard-working man in a titled hat, remain with him to this day.

Through Tilted Hat Motorsports, Ben and his team endeavor to provide their clients with the same level of craftsmanship and precision as taught to him by Grandpa Bob.
